The purpose of the Principal Consultant is to be the technical authority on the development of either one or several safety cases associated with a wide range of nuclear facilities, plant and operations and acts as the main interface with all stakeholders.

Job Desription

The Consulting division is a growing team and has recently recruited a number of graduate and other consultants with a safety/risk management background. The purpose of the Principal Consultant is to be the technical authority on the development of either one or several safety cases associated with a wide range of nuclear facilities, plant and operations and acts as the main interface with all stakeholders. The Principal Consultant also works in collaboration with the Head of Consulting and other Principal Consultants to identify and secure new business opportunities, although this is NOT a ‘sales’ role. Projects may come from NUKEM’s Major Projects and/or Engineering Design division or from 3rd parties. Projects are expected to be both UK and international (although these are normally delivered from the UK) typically involving a close working relationship directly with Tier 1 clients.

Experience

• Manage the financial aspects of projects, and will be responsible for performing general management functions as set out by Head of Consulting
• Independently planning strategy and budgets for projects
• Responsibility for reviewing and approving and managing the delivery of the work of project members.
• Undertake main interface between NUKEM and client in the preparation of safety cases
• Identification and communication of business opportunities within existing projects, existing and new clients to line management
• Lead the development of strategies and designs for meeting client objectives
• Responsible for developing and maintaining marketing strategies for current and future clients
• Responsible for new business development activities to generate workload for self and team from new and/or existing clients
• Responsible for attending business meetings with existing and potential clients and development of long-term client relationships
• Participate in the tendering process where appropriate

Key Expertiese


‘Expert’ experience in the production of nuclear safety cases and/or radiological assessments, in any or all of the following:
• Hazard identification
• Deterministic and probabilistic safety analysis
• Consequence assessment
• Safety and environmental management systems
• Nuclear licensing and safety management
• External hazard assessments
• ALARP studies
• Human factors
• Availability/maintainability/reliability studies
• Fire safety
• Full knowledge of design based risk assessments, hazard studies and safe design principles including: hazard identification, fault schedules, radiological consequence, frequency and deterministic analysis, derivation of safety measures and safety management arrangements
• Experience and/or demonstrable ability of working with multi-discipline technical teams within a professional project environment is necessary for this position
• Experience of both operational, design and decommissioning safety case production to modern standards
• Demonstrable competency in writing technical reports for commercial clients.
• Appropriate team, project or departmental man management experience
• Demonstrable experience of dealing with regulators, senior management, operators and safety committees
• Proven ability to generate sufficient workload for self and team from new and/or existing clients within relevant areas of expertise
• Candidates should be able to present themselves and their ideas to others.
